New England Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien has agreed to become the coach at Penn State, sources told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen on Thursday.
The Nittany Lions plan to make the move official with an announcement Saturday, the sources said.
Terms of the deal are unknown.
O'Brien, who has not served as a head coach in college or the NFL and has not coached or played at Penn State, will continue to serve as the Patriots' offensive coordinator for the rest of the season, a league source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
O'Brien interviewed with Penn State on Thursday, his agent, Joe Linta, told The Associated Press.
O'Brien has been working to put together his staff. Titans offensive quality-control coach Charles London is expected to join O'Brien and go to Penn State as the running backs coach, an NFL source told Schefter.
Why the fuck would anyone want the Penn State football coaching job? I mean for fucks sake that place is going to be an abyss for the next three years at least between not being able to recruit and paying off victims to shut their fucking mouths. Not the best coaching job in the world.
If I were O'Brien I would have locked down a massive contract to put up with this shit for the new x years. I'm talking big league money.
Good luck Bill |
Just the fact that Penn State is taking a coordinator for the position says it all, they are desperate. No quality head coach would want to go to Penn State. I mean how the fuck do you think recruiting visits will go? Imagine talking to parents about how many millions the University is spending to prevent more lawsuits. Ugly, ugly stuff.
If O'Brien isn't making fat stacks to lead Penn State out of the shadow of the biggest scandal in NCAA history, then he is a dumbass. Worst coaching job in football right now, and he took it.
not to mention how much it must suck to live in state college bumblefuck coal country, pennsylvania. penn state sucks
