Stockton, Jason Kidd, Mark Jackson. These are the three NBA all time assist leaders. We are now watching Rajon Rondo enter the prime years of his career. If you've watched any of the Celtic's games, you have seen it. He reads the floor like a quarterback reads the field. 24 assists against the Knicks last week. 17 against Detroit. The NBA assist record through four games. This kid is the real deal.
Makin it look easy.
Now look, he isn't the only one in the league who has this kind of touch. Of the NBA's top 25 all time assistants, Steve Nash, Jason Kidd, and Andre Miller are all still active. But let's be real, Nash has a sick touch but he is old. Jason Kidd, enough said. Same thing for Miller. But with Rajon Rondo we are really witnessing a young player who when it's all said and done will probably be near the top of this list. So far this year he is averaging 16 assists, and it is early. Rigth now we are seeing what he is capable of, maybe he slows down, probably not for many many years.
I'm just saying in a year where it seems the NBA has become relevant nationally with the super team in Miami, Kobe going for another one, and the rest of the league actually looking pretty competitive, if you can catch a Celtic's game and get a chance to watch this kid deal, do it. Next game is Friday against the sleeper Bulls in Boston, 8pm on ESPN.
