4:20 Funny: Schools for Potheads

Now I'm not talking like, "go to Skidmore cuz everyone loves pot dur"-type stuff. I'm talking Greenway University, which has one campus in Denver, and there are plans in the works for a second one in Phoenix. In November Arizona passed a medical marijuana act, which is prompting Gus Escamilla, founder of Greenway University, to expand. California already has Oaksterdam University, with campuses throughout the state. However Greenway University is the only state-approved higher educational facility for medical marijuana. Courses include focus on cultivation techniques, as well as legal aspects of the cannabis industry. Also covered is the risk of starting a medical marijuana dispensary, both the financial risk and legal issues a weed entrepreneur faces. More at the State Press.

Look, call it stupid, call it whatever you want. The fact is marijuana is being medically legalized in this country, so there is an entire industry being created from the ground up. Which means we need people being educated in the inner workings of the industry. This way it legitimizes medical marijuana. It's not just dealers switching up and growing weed and slanging it out the trunk. It is business professionals who recognize the opportunities the medical marijuana industry offers and are ready to learn about it to be successful dispensary owners or medical growers. I think it's pretty damn cool if I ever make it out west or the laws come east, I would definitely consider supplementing a bachelors degree with some course work in the marijuana industry.

If you're a pothead slacker, this also gives you the opportunity to apply yourself to something you may actually believe in. Don't want to work in a cubicle but have a high business IQ? Think about being educated in medical marijuana and opening a dispensary. It's pretty sweet that we live in a time where it is even possible to consider such an education.
